[G4] DVDs not showing up in G4

Got me stumped. That's as it should be, AFAIK.

I assume, that, of course, the CDs, DVDs and iPods option is checked in 
Finder > Preferences, and that the usual options are set in System 
Preferences > CDs and DVDs. What happens when a data CD is inserted? Is 
it recognized? If not, in Terminal, issue the command

$ drutil discinfo

What's the result? What happens if you insert a data DVD and issue the 
same command?
