[G4] OS 9.x boot question

I've got a few volumes on my disks with OS 9.1 or 9.2.2 System Folders that were bootable on my old PTP (Sonnet or MaxPowr card) G3. Now, they either don't show up in OS 10.3.9's Startup Disk (on my dual G4 MDD) or they fail to boot and the computer switches back to X.

The OS 9.2.2 systems were made with OS 9 Helper. Is that the problem?

Is OS 9.1 not runnable on these machines?
