[G4] What's woth printer?

Hello,
On my G3-mt computer which uses OS 10.2,8, I have a HP 2110v printer.
It works OK except for one fault. Everytime I click on print, a note 
appears saying
       opening printer connection failed
I have to click on the "stop job" button, then click on the "resune" 
button. Then a note  says opening printer connection is OK and my page 
is printed.
I've tried resetting defaults, disconnecting and reconnecting but 
nothing works. The printer didn't do this when it was new, whish is over 
a year ago.
Any suggestions?
