I am sure it would boot okay as I am booting my G4 using a drive on the Ultra DMA PCI card. However unless you have upgraded your drive or drives, I do not think there would be much of a difference in performance. The new drives have faster seek and access time and larger buffers. I would but a new Ultra DMA drive and either copy your current boot drive or do a fresh install.
