Thanks to all for the information about G4 Macs. Now the decision as to which OWC processor upgrade is best for my AGP/400Mhz G4. On the one hand theres the "PowerLogix PowerForce47 G4/1.6GHz with 512K 1:1 L2 Cache on Processor for PowerMac G4 AGP Graphics/Sawtooth" at $239. This unit apparently varys its processor speed depending on applications in use. The detailed data on the unit states that it runs at 900Mhz most of the time and only jumps to 1.6 when loading a new page into your browser. CPU Director now also supports DFS, or Dynamic Frequency Switching. DFS allows the operating system to dynamically choose either full or half CPU speed depending on the software load. The user can set the parameters for this via the Energy Saver System Preference. Since the majority of tasks do not need full throttle CPU power at all times, when set for 'Automatic,' the operating system increases clock speed as needed, and decreases it as needed, on the fly - all without user intervention. Am I paying for 1.6 only to use 900Mhz? Then theres a "PowerLogix PowerForce55 G4/1.4GHz (1400MHz) Upgrade with 2MB Cache for PowerMac G4 AGP Models w/100MHz Bus" at $249. The data sheet states that it runs at 1.4Mhz. Maybe this is better because its runs at a constant 1.4Mhz. If anyone has any opinions on these two choices, please chime in! Thanks for your comments!
