Chris First off you've got yourself a ok Mac for starters. Now go to something called evermac.com and look it up. This will help you to understand the pecking order of all of the G4. The order runs something like this - your Power Mac G4 AGP family of Mac's, next came the the Power Mac G4 Gigabit / Ethernet & Digital Audio (DA) family of Mac's, followed by the Power Ma G4 QuickSilver (their were two of them [that's where I'm at], then came the power mac G4 Mirrored Door Drives (MDD) / Firewire models to end the series. Then the G5's Next visit a site called "Accelerate Your Mac" at www.Xlr8yourmac.com to find out what to do. For starts max out your memory, then upgrade your hard drives followed by your storage drive (CD to Superdrive). Then look to Accelerating your CPU. Or look to upgrading to a Mac higher up the food chain - the closer you are to a late model DA, Quicksilver (QS) or MDD the better off you are in the long run - the three all ran a bus speed of 133 MHz. In the end it's all about bus speed when it come to software upgrades and running the latest OS X without a lot of third-party fixes. After all of that - ask before you do - cause their is still lots of life left in your MAC if you just take the time to find it - i.e the latest security upgrade just product a speed bump for my Quicksilver as a byproduct to the upgrade. The other day someone put it best when they wrote... Every new release of Mac OS X from version 10.1 to 10.2 to 10.3 to 10.4 actually added new features while making their ancient G3 iBook faster at the same time. With Mac OS X, it's a no-brainer to upgrade the operating system since you speed up an old computer while getting new features at the same time," The guy was writing about M$ Windows Vista - the want to be Mac. So see your in good company Welcome aboard and keep us all up to date on your progress with your MAC - it's going to be a fun ride!
