[G4] Pioneer DVD 110-DBK

I just bought a Pioneer 110-DBK DVD for my Quicksilver 733. I am 
currently using OS 9, but intend to install Tiger on another 
partition. I need to know if this drive will operate under OS 9. If 
not, I would like to know if I install it to an external Firewire 
enclosure that is bootable, will I indeed be able to boot and install 
Tiger? I'd like to keep the old drive in my Quicksilver if the DVD 
won't work because still do a lot of stuff in 9 right now.
