[G4] Apple's Mail

A most disappointing aspect of Mail in Tiger is the behaviour of the  
Outbox which, for the most part, is invisible.
When sending mail, upon pressing the send button the message simply  
disappears without a trace.
No progress indicator is provided and when the message includes an  
attachment, I have no idea of when the message transmission has  
ended. On a few occasions, an Outbox belatedly appears but normally,  
I have to bring up the Sent box and wait for my message to appear in  
that.
This is most unsatisfactory.
Have I missed something here?
