[G4] External Drives Not Mounting

I have a G4 - Gigabit Ethernet 400MHz 576 MB of
memory. I have installed a Orange Link+ - USB
2.0/FireWire PCI card. I have two external drives: one
case is Firewire only the other is Firewire or USB.
Neither of the two drives will mount when connected to
the PCI card so I switched them to the computer ports
(Firewire & USB). I still connot get them to mount.
Are my cables bad or what other problem could I have?
