A quick look at Apple's specifications http://support.apple.com/specs/powermac/Power_Mac_G4_AGP.html for the G4 AGP shows a maximum claimed resolution of 1280 x 1024 for VGA. Are you sure you are really getting 1600x1200? I would suspect you need a newer video card. Fortunately, there are a lot of used AGP cards with adequate VRAM out there at reasonable ($20-$40) prices.
