Thanks for the replies (on line and off) from the group. I'd be 'close' to nailing the advice w/"I need a 1+Ghz CPU & more audio/video memory + 1/2 Gig more RAM, (cheap, I won't debate if I'm 'suffering', there). That seems to be a $300 fix at least...not over $400? To refresh: I've got a Power Mac G4 GE 400 MHz, L2 Cache 1 MB. 100 MHz Bus, ATV Rage Video 16MB? (also using an external DVD burner, nice to move to other machine) So, for around $200 more than an 'upgrade'? The 'basic' Mini (under $600?) I get the Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz Level 2 cache - 2MB Video (Swipes RAM, but 64MB 667MHz Bus If I invest $300+ in the G4? I will probably 'solve' my weaknesses (inability to manipulate A/V is the main concern). But? For $200 'more' (the Mini @ around $600) I can keep this machine (It's not 'bad'!) & it has 240Gig of storage (nearly new HD's). I currently 'share' on a Win/router & data from various machines moves around. Plus, I'm under the impression that the basic Mini would 'outperform' even the 'upgraded' G4 (faster bus, larger cache and faster CPU). No, it isn't fair to compare a $3-400 upgrade to spending another $200+ "on top of that". OTOH, I do end up 'keeping' the G4 (as is, is more than useful) by 'adding' the Mini. and the Mini 'appears' to outperform the upgraded G4 and it's 'new'. The reason I 'call' this a dilemma? I will be 'happy enough' (for now) by only spending $3-400 for the upgrade. But 'why' is it not wiser to spend the 'double that cost' (the upgrade cost) to get a "better?" (the Mini is faster?) machine PLUS I will still retain the G4? Or, is there any reason the Mini will be 'less good' than the upgraded G4? [Or, ignoring 'cost', is there any 'downside' to the Mini versus the upgraded G4?] Thanks, Michael
