I'd like to chime in with a similar experience I've had with my MacBook: had a disc that refused to eject, feared the drive was dead, but one every reboot I could hear it spin up briefly. Tried everything everyone has mentioned here, and a few others, but in the end I discovered that the culprit was a flakey stick of RAM. As soon as I pulled out the offending stick, the optical drive worked perfectly! The RAM had worked just fine up until that point, and continues to work fine in another less classy laptop (ie. Windows machine), but for some reason it did not play happy with my Mac. - Tony On 21-Dec-07, at 6:57 PM, Harry Freeman wrote: > Greetings ( + )!( + ) > > I would recommend that before you do the "eject cd that you do: > 1) reset-nvram (return) > 2) set-defaults (return) > Then use the Open Firmware command > 3) reset-all (return) > instead of the mac-boot command, > > I think that you'll need a "-" in the eject cd command > i.e. eject-cd however I might be wrong! > > When you start up from your 10.3 install CD you might try opening > the "Disk Utility" and see if you can run "Disk Repair" and "Repair > Disk Permissions" > > I would also recommend the first thing that you do is reset "PRAM" > before booting into Open Firmware. > > Just my 2 cents. > ---------------------------------------------------- > On Dec 21, 2007, at 12:11 PM, B G wrote: > >> To eject a disc with Open Firmware commands, follow these steps: >> >> 1.
