[G4] How good is Gigabit Ethernet (on a G4 GE)?

I have a three Gigabit Ethernet G4's at home on my
(currently) 100bT wired/wireless network. I know it
won't do anything to speed up my internet connection,
but I was considering upgrading to a gigabit switch to
take advantage of the the extra speed potential on my
LAN (file and printer sharing).

Anybody got any experience with Apples built-in
gigabit ethernet interface? Does it work?
