Just like w/Windows, I do not believe in upgrades, at best they are not 100% error free, as you are finding out. Especially with your example, your upgrading 2 versions back. 1 is bad enough. It is much easier to do a clean install, along with the inconvenience of reinstalling your programs. Backup your data files, remember the path from where they came from, do a clean install, reinstall the programs, place the data file(s) back to where they came from. I have been working with computers since the late '70s, and at least for me and most of my colleagues, is how we deal with a new OS. I will say, the exception is Linux.
