If possible it's worth doing if you are running OSX. But you must have a recent version of the Uni North Asic chip on your motherboard. Go here: http://newertech.com/tech_support/uni-north.php and run this software to check. If your revision is up to it then fitting a dual 450 or 500 module is easy. I have upgraded a couple of gigabit G4's to dual 450's and like the result. However my work AGP 350 could not go dual so I removed the optical ATA bus connector and fitted it with a overclocked 800MHz QS single (this requires some soldering). Works great! BTW the optical drive plugs into the main ATA bus instead, and I use SCSI drives via an ATTO pci card for storage. It's running Tiger, MS Office, and X11 to connect to unix boxes. I prefer it to the DULL laptop the company supplies me with. Mostly seems faster also. --- c m <dachamp_11226 at yahoo.com> wrote: > can I upgrade the processor in my G4 APG 400MHz to a > dual processor? > > here is my system profile: > > Machine Name: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) > Machine Model: PowerMac3,1 > CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9) > Number Of CPUs: 1 > CPU Speed: 400 MHz > L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB > Memory: 1.5 GB > Bus Speed: 100 MHz > Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1 > Serial Number: XA0091A2HSE > Sales Order Number: M7641LL/A > > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam?
