I had the same problem with my G4 gigabit upgraded to a 1 ghz processor. After trying a reinstall and hard drive verification and repair. i than did an install on the second hard drive worked fine until I did a user transfer that back to the same problem. Ended up doing a clean install, then manually transferring applications and documents. No problems since then that was Monday, I can only assume something in the user file was corrupted.
