There is a "nub" in the Apple keyboard extension cable that prevents its operation as a simple usb extension (why?). But if you just buy a standard usb extension cable (I use one by Belkin) you can just use that to extend the keyboard cable to the desired length. My G4 hangs under my desk from a Marathon Computers mounting bracket (excellent idea), so I use a three foot usb extension cable. Your mouse just goes in the keyboard. No problems. One thing worth a mention here is I also have a Griffin iMic unit. This plugs into the other keyboard usb socket and then I can plug my headphones into that. Thus I don't have to grope around the back of the cpu to plug in headphones. Sounds good too!
