Pat, I found the following link that deals with this issue via an open
firmware edit:

I've been using this edit with my own G4 DA and a 250 GB second drive.
There's also a way to do this with the command line, although I don't
know enough about UNIX to understand it. Do a search on the Google
Groups G3-G5 list; I remember seeing it there.
