[G4] browser download folder

Hi all,

I'm on a dual 1.25 GHz MDD running 10.4.11 my question is concerning the
download path in my browser. I use the latest version of Firefox as my main
browser, and am now unable to download because when I click on a link, I am
presented with a dialogue box showing a complex looking download path, which
doesn't exist, and asking me to change the path because it cannot complete
the operation. I've tried the obvious things such as: changing the browser
preferences, trashing the preferences file, re-installing the browser, but
to no avail. I have now noticed the same behavior in another browser; is
there a another place in the system preferences to change the downloads
folder, or some place where there exists a general download path setting?
