I have both a G4 - 1.0 dual and a G5 - 2.0 dual. My experience is the G5 is faster for just all around work. It boots up much faster and it also transfers data to/from the hard drive faster. I also prefer the fan structure of the G5. It has multiple fans and the OS turns them on and off depending on the work load being sent to the processor(s) -- i.e. more work -- more heat -- hence more fans. But usually, when not loading it down, it can get by with one fan a very slow speed, hence extremely quite. My vote goes to the G5.
