I have a mini (10.8) and a G4 mirror (10.5)... I turn on "cd or dvd sharing" on the g4 and on the mini I go to "Connect to Server" to get to the DVD. That way I can play my audio cd books on the mini... yes an internal cd/dvd player would be easier but for the few times I use cds it is ok...
