[G4] eSATA external drive fails to mount ?

I have a G4 450 with a 1.5 ghz Sonnet processor.

I have a eSATA card, plug and play for macintosh.

I have an external eSATA hard drive.

The drive is not being recognized.  It has a clean os 10.5.0 on one
partition and 10.3.9 on the other.

Any ideas why or what I might try to make this work?

It works just fine with FW800 connections.
