The ethernet connection on that computer has been working just fine. And I've switched my connection between dial up and broadband several times in the past. Everything seemed fine in the settings, but it still didn't work. I sat in front of the screen and probably looked stupid. For some reason I went back to basics, and consequently used the built-in assistant. It quickly guided me through a few steps, and suddenly it worked just fine. The OS shouldn't do this, but it did. Since I have OS Tiger, I am not sure how the assistant works in Panther (oh, by the way, the latest release of that OS ought to be 10.3.9), but I belive that you are skilled enough to figure it out.
