[G5] mail

My Apple mail application has been going wacko lately.

I've checked with my cable company and they have no problem in my area.

Here's whats happening.  The mail keeps asking me for my password.  
About 20 times a day it has to ask me for the password.  I have mail 
set up to check for mail every minute.  After I type in the password it 
will check for the mail but a minute later its asking again.

Any ideas?

OS X 10.3.7, Dual 2.5 ghz G5.
