no more "sticking Pro Mouse"

Here is an update to my earlier question regarding a "sticking Pro Mouse":

The Mouse is dead.

Cleaning did not help things, so I just decided to live with it, and now the
mouse is dead.  No little red light, no nuthin'.  I tried plugging it into a
different port on the Belkin USB hub, and tried plugging it directly into my
iBook.  Nuthin'.  

Why may it have died?  I use it on my desk, did not drop it, or abuse it in
any other way.  Maybe its life was up?
