internal modem

Are there known issues with the internal modem in the 450 mhz cube?
I am trying to use it for faxes. I don't think that I have a software 
issue.
I have tried various things to troubleshoot this.  I normally use dsl 
modem to connect to the internet. Now, I find that my internal modem 
will not connect. The progress bar says dialing, dialing, connecting, 
disconnected.
I tried to find the information on the apple site but no luck.

Cube 450 mhz, OS 10.2.4, 640 megs ram
