Bob,

The OSX Mail program allows you to import your mail for Outlook 
Express. And you can still use OE in the Classic mode in X to get your 
mail.

I don't use Explorer so I can't help you there.

There is one freeware that will make your OSX experience much nicer and 
it is called "Show Desktop". It allows you with one click in the dock 
to hide all applications and show your desktop. If you find when you 
install X that getting to the desktop is a problem, download that 
program. Everyone I know uses it.
