OS 10 music question

I just installed OS 10 and have my music on a separate portable hard 
drive. After installing OS 10, my separate hard drive still comes up on 
desk top and when I open it I get the folder icons of each list of each 
group of songs (easy listening, etc), but no songs are visible and I 
can't play anything. Is this some new copyright protection Apple has 
installed? Any ideas? I played them all the time in OS 9.2.2. George
