[HM] running OS 9

Yours is one of the only iMac models to ever ship with 10.2.7. This was 
the first version that shipped with the new G5s, and it is quite likely 
that this version does not support changing to an OS 9 start up disk. 
Or maybe the specific model iMac's firmware prevents this. I am not 
sure how Apple controls the startup OS choice. I would check with 
Apple.

It's conceivable that a different OS X version would allow you to start 
up in OS 9, but I don't really know for sure. If it's firmware driven, 
then probably not. I really have no experience with that.
