No sound

I've been having some minor performance issues lately with my iMac (OS9.2.2)
and decided it was time to run Norton Utilities. Prior to doing so, I reset
the PRAM. After I ran Norton (a few minor problems were found and repaired)
I have no sound. Checked all the usual volume controls. The Main Volume
control is all the way to the left of the little slider bar, and will not
stay "set" when I move it. Any ideas, Oh Wise Ones?
