iMovie import limits

can anyone tell me what thy are? i tried to import a 30 minute QT movie ( 
under 2 gigs,  w/ motion jpeg compression) into imovie 3 & it choked 
midway.

So I thought I need to export to DV stream first & did so. When I then 
try iMovie import I get msg. like "file too big" ( about 6 gigs)

So I am wondering what the limits of iMovie are 7 why it chcoked on a 
simple 30 min QT.MOV

any ideas?
