The SCART system has the ability to handle both audio/video in and out.
You'll have to buy a special dubbing cable that has the correct pins
connected, but it shouldn't cost you more than 10 pounds UK. There are also
cables that have an in/out switch on and just one set of sockets that double
as either input or output depending on the switch position. There's a branch
of Richer Sounds in Exeter that will probably be able to provide the cables:
I know that you're somewhere near Exmoor, so it's probably your best bet
locally.

The output is analogue, however, so if you want to use FireWire, you'll need
an analogue to digital converter. The Canopus ADVC-100 box is a neat
solution and combines a good feature set with a reasonable price.
