So... uh... Kenny... get a Pioneer DVD-RW drive (the A05/105 models are 
just coming out) and get the "upgrade" for iDVD 2... You'll have to 
move to OS X though, and if you don't have *at least* 512 MB of RAM, 
you'll need to upgrade that as well...

Oh... I just re-read your post... You already have an internal 
"SuperDrive"?  And 512 kb (er, um, 512 MB, right?)  Then what are you 
waiting for???  If you don't already have a Digital8 camera (how'd you 
get those Digital8 tapes?), then get one and get on with it...  You can 
play your 8mm video tapes (analog and digital) through the Digital8 
camera, and do a "pass-through" from your VHS deck through the camera 
via DV/FireWire to your computer...  You'll probably want to get 
another hard drive, though 40 GB will fill up fast!
