After using Quark Xpress since inception, and in that no serious design house or ad agency has ever used PageMaker for design work (the ratio between Quark and PageMaker is at least 40:1 in the publishing world), I can say that, under OS X, InDesign has converted our agency from Quark in less than a week. We have had PageMaker since its inception as well, but only use it when an alien file shows up from someone using PageMaker. This is only once every two or three years... We have retired all our Quark workstations and use InDesign exclusively, and will not look back as Quark has made the gravest of errors in not committing to OS X to compete with InDesign. Earlier versions of InDesign did not impress us much, but the latest software rocks, especially on OS X, which is inherently press oriented with built in PDF capability. The ability to freely design as if you were in Photoshop inside of InDesign is a huge eye opener. Tremendous power at the touch of the mouse making complex designs at least 200-300% more efficient - which is to say, the work is done sooner... Going to press ready PDF also eliminates all bottlenecks at the press end of things. That is all thanks to OS X. Richard Brown
