Quick! Can you make DVD's on an external burner?

I've made an iMovie for my Aunt & Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary, and
I need to mail it today!

I'd like to put it on DVD, and I've exported from iMovie to an iDVD
".mov" file.  However, the only DVD burner in the building is an
external FireWire one (the actual drive came out of a G4 Mac, but it is
now housed in an external FireWire case).

Is there any way to burn a DVD that will be viewable in a consumer DVD
player using the external drive? Can iDVD (the old free one) do it? What
about Toast (we have that)? If Toast will do it, how is it done?
