If expense is not a worry, you can send FW800 up to 500 meters over 
glass fiber.

The FireNEX optical repeater from www.newnex.com handles the 
copper-to-fiber conversion at each end (at a cost of $540 per end).

They have also announced a converter that will cover 100 meters over 
Cat 5 cable, but only at 100 Mbps. Sort of like Fast Ethernet but with 
the advantages of FireWire (isochronous delivery etc.).
