In response to Larry's post, Ric wrote about using USB based "Instant DVD"
from ADS... noting that the product doesn't handle DV material, since it's
not Firewire.

If you buy a Digital 8 camcorder with analog INS and outs... you should be
able to playback your 8mm, Hi8mm and Digital8 tapes into your Mac through
Firewire with no problem.

When you're done editing... port the edited product out to the D8 camcorder.

Then, transfer the D8 master tape into the computer using analog out to
Instant DVD, and keep it in the digital realm except for this last transfer.

NO loss of quality inherent with going to any analog medium... especially
SVHS.

Your purchase of the Digital8 camcorder with analog Inputs and outputs
enables you to transfer any of your existing 8mm based video, plus take in
VHS or other analog sources.

Regarding your 8mm FILM transfers: If you get the above D8 camcorder, fave
them professionally transferred to Digital8, and then port them to the
computer for editing.

Ted.
