My solutions for this was to get a desktop DVD recorder (philips,
panasonic, pioneer).  Hook up the camera to the video or firewire in
port and start recording directly to DVD.   This does not alow any
editing but it sure is alot faster.  I save my time of importing to the
computer and editing for the critical footage.  Most family members just
want it all with no recard for quality.
