Partition the 200gb external drive into several partitions. Set a different partition as the scratch disk for each project. Have FCP installed on the internal drive and save the projects on the internal hard drive as well. (create a folder called FCP Projects or something and save them all into it) So, captured media on the external, projects saved on the internal. Make sure you only have one firewire device plugged into the computer.
