Yes DVDSP works with external DVD-R drives. But for less than that $1,000, you can sell your TiBook 800 and buy the GHz 12" APB SuperDrive for $2,000 or the 15" TiPB for $2800 and get to use iDVD3 with it. That's what I would do if I were you. This route will probably only cost you a few hundred dollars to graduate to the 15" SuperDrive TiPB.
