Mac-PC DV-compatibility

First of all, I'd like to express my delight at this wonderful list 
and the amount of info one can glean as a lurker.
Now, I have a question myself.

Recently, I prepared a movie in iMovie and wanted to burn the file as 
a Data-DVD - not Video-DVD - for a friend, who uses a PC with 
Pinnacle Studio8.
So, I exported  the file from iMovie with QT Pro as a DV file, with 
the .dv suffix.
To my surprise, my friend was unable to import the file, Pinnacle 
didn't recognize it.
Here I thought, DV was a universal format, but apparently, this is 
not the case. What would I/he have to do, to import this file?
