Yeah but it would be fubar to lie to your boss about it. You should  
explain to him that you know two ways to solve the problem. One is  
expensive in the short term but cheaper and better in the long run.

The other-the Vaio- is cheaper, both long and short, but the cost of  
time and other as yet undiscovered short comings will probably negate  
that savings... like when whatever he uses instead of iMovie stops  
being supported...

If he sells his camera on Ebay he might be able to break even...
