Paste Over Problem

I'm working on my first big project since updating to iMovie 3.03. The 
first time I tried to use "paste over at playhead," nothing happened. 
No crash. No dialog box. No paste over. Nothing. I then tried again 
with a different clip. Same result.

I'm using an iMac 800MHz with the original 256 MB of RAM. I have used 
"paste over at playhead" many times with earlier versions of iMovie and 
similar size clips (30 seconds, give or take a few seconds). Any ideas?
