>Just this morning xlr8yourmac.com published a review of the new >Hitachi 80 GB 2.5" HD. Fast quiet, and only $299 at transintl.com. I >don't expect anyone to have any better deals for awhile, though you >could check pricewatch.com to be sure. or $298 with free shipping from newegg.com. It was encouraging to see that this 4200 drive was actually faster than the 5400 RPM drives before. IBM did announce (before selling its laptop hard drive business off to Hitachi) that it was going to have a 5400 RPM 80GB drive, the 80GNX (search for "80gnx" in Google), but aside from the press release last year on that, I haven't seen any indication that this drive is really going to show up. In the mean time, I think this will be the drive for me. By the way, xlr8yourmac.com gives instruction on how to rip apart an iBook in order to swap the hard drive, and mentions that there are a lot of screws you have to remove. Are these phillips screws, or tiny Torx ones?
