On 5/29/03 at 4:14 PM, David Thrasher <idave at earthlink.net> transmitted the following electronic message: > >I just upgraded to Quicktime 6 and bought the Pro license and bought >and downloaded the MPEG2 component for playback of these files. I have >a MPEG-2 file that was sent which I can play fine but when I try to >export it into another format (have tried a regular Quicktime Mov and >a DV file) the audio is missing. What gives? I'm trying to convert it >into a format that my friend can view. He doesn't have MPEG-2 >capabilities. > While the MPEG-2 playback plugin can play muxed (multiplexed) tracks, it does not include the capability of demuxing the audio and video into separate tracks, which is what you need for the export. Thus, you get only one track (the video). Use a tool such as mpgtx (freeware) to demux the track into separate audio (MP2) and video (M2V) tracks. Then, you'll need to use iTunes or something similar to convert the MP2 into MP3 or AIFF. Now, finally, you'll be able to use QT Pro to put the tracks back into one file and export to a format your friend will be able to deal with. --Dennis Cohen iLife Bible iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD Bible Mac OS X Bible
