Tape degrades over time. Hard drives can crash and loose part of your data. (use multiple HDs and store one offsite) DVD-Rs only hold 4.7 GB, so you can store about 21min of DV on a DVD-R. With that said I would not burn to DVD until you have edited due to space limitations (23GB blue laser DVD burners will be nice in a few years) >Would archiving them to mini-DV be the 1st choice of this list? I wouldn't call it "archiving" but for your transistion period it would be fine. Your other and more expensive option would be to backup on 2 hard drives (differnet mfgs). This way you would be digitized and ready to edit too. Sounds like your best option might be to just start editing! ;-) -Preston
