external DVD burner

I'm getting closer to needing a DVD burner.

I've always thought that I'd be waiting until I could justify the 
expense of a Mac w/ a Superdrive, but now I'm thinking I might be 
better off getting an external DVD burner, sooner than later.

I know that Apple's iDVD needs an internal drive, but I'd like to hear 
opinions about how much I'd be losing by getting an external sooner 
than waiting for when I can justify the cost of a new Mac.
