Just as I was looking this up in Erica's book (iMovie 3 Solutions), Erica's answers came through, but without the book title. Also, I have a 1999 Visual Quickstart Guide for QuickTime 4 that has the information. So, I'd concentrate on the books, as that article is likely based on them.
