Mono audio output in FCP

How do you get a mono audio output in FCP?

I want the identical audio on both tracks.

Does sliding the pan control to the 0, or center position, of a stereo audio
file produce a mono output? Or is this just the normal L-R spread as I
suspect?

I guess I could unlink the stereo files to make them mono and pan them all
to center.
