FCE 1.0 and G3 iMac

That's kind of been in the back of my mind, as I've heard of problems with Canons, such as capturing to external hard drives, but never anything specific to frame dropping.
If this is my problem, is there any remedy aside from a new camera (which isn't possible right now)?  Also, do the newer Canons such as the ZR60 and ZR70 still have issues.  (I hope not, because I love my Canons, and I just talked my Dad into getting a ZR60 for himself).
